Easter wreath

I feel terrible I've been neglecting my little blog. My whole world was turned upside down when my husband became ill. The last thing I think about doing, as sad as it sounds is crafts.

I pulled my Easter things out of storage and found the wreath I made a couple of years ago.

Supplies you will need: WREATH (I used one made out of grapevine. You can use any kind you want.) EASTER GRASS (any color you prefer) EASTER EGGS, a GARLAND, some SILK FLOWERS, a STUFFED BUNNY or two.

Instructions: You can glue your grass to your wreath with any kind of glue that works for you. I like hot glue because it's fast. Grab your garland and tie it around your wreath and grass to secure the grass better. Leave even spaces in between. Glue your eggs where you want them. I used some white little flowers too. When you're done you can place one stuffed rabbit or a boy/girl rabbit on the bottom of the wreath. That's it! You've got a wreath.

Christmas Ornament

To make these special ornaments, you will need handmade art paper. (You can buy it at a scrapbook store.) You can also use any other kind of paper you want. A glass ball ornament. Mod Podge, a sponge brush, and some ribbon. You are ready to go!

l. Take the cap off the ornament and stick a popsicle stick in there so that you won't get glue on
your hands.

2. Put a layer of mod podge glue all over the glass ball.

3. Wrap a piece of paper around the ball.

4. Cover the paper with mod podge.

5. Let it dry approx. an hour.

6. Put another layer of mod podge on .

7. Let it dry.

8. Put the cap back on.

9. Tie a ribbon on the top.

You can make copies of a favorite photo or a favorite quote or any thing you would like to put on your ornament to make it extra special.

When I was in the Young Women program, I printed out the Young Women theme and gave one to all the girls for Christmas. Just glue it on with some mod podge and put another layer on top.

Skewers

Sometimes kids want to give all their friends and teachers something for Christmas. (Especially our daughters) I thought this would be inexpensive for them to make and give away. Plus, they will also feel good about making their Christmas presents. (Make sure an adult helps when the little ones are cutting their skewers.....and watch out for those pointed ends!)

Did you know you could turn skewers into these cute sticks for your hair?

Just cut them in half, or as long as you want them. Then paint them whatever color you'd like. Thread some beads in a wire and wrap the wire on the end that is not pointed.

Also....go to Tracy's blog and look at her cute pillowcase dresses! I love them! They are so cute! If I had a little girl, I would get busy making some. Those are my kind of crafts! Semi-homemade....remember?

Tostadas

Tostadas or as we call them in the Rio Grande Valley "Chalupas." My kids love them! They are so simple to make and so inexpensive. Just buy the already made Tostadas. They are usually in the mexican food isle at the grocery store. Heat up some beans and spread on your tostada. Sprinkle some cheddar cheese on top of the beans. Anson loves sour cream on his. If you like veges on yours, put some lettuce, tomatoes, onions, olives, etc. Aubrey just likes the tostada with beans and cheese. That's it!

This is my other pumpkin I dressed up. The bow and berries that I used on this one are from last year. Don't forget to save all your bows and reuse them. I think it's one of my favorite.

Enchiladas

This is my favorite enchilada recipe! My sister, Nancy showed me how to make this quick recipe one week before I got married. That was 29 years ago! I like this recipe because they are so simple to make and because I've never tasted any other beef enchiladas that taste this good.

INGREDIENTS to make 50 enchiladas....
50 corn tortillas
3 lbs lean hamburger
2 packages enchilada mix
1 small can of tomato sauce
oil
onions
medium cheddar cheese

INSTRUCTIONS....
-Brown your hamburger with chopped onions, drain and rinse, put it back in your pan, add l can of tomato sauce and two cans of water, add 3 packages of enchilada mix (2 if you do not want it too spicy.) Keep it on simmer.
-Grate some cheddar cheese and have it ready.
-Chop a yellow onion. (Very small)
-Put some oil in a small pan at medium high. You will have to keep adding oil to cover once tortilla at all times.
-Have a plate with 2 or 3 paper towels ready where you will be placing your tortillas to absorb all the oil.
-Place your corn tortilla in the oil for 4 or 5 seconds turn it and quickly take it out.
-When you get your tortilla out you want it soft enough to fill and roll...you don't want it hard. Every burner is different so you might need less time or more time.
-Start placing the tortillas on your plate with the paper towels. I overlap about 5, then I put a paper towel and start again. By the time I'm done with all 50 tortillas the paper towels have absorbed all the oil and they're ready to be filled and rolled.
YOU ARE READY TO FILL AND ROLL
You will need a large cookie sheet or a large cake pan.
Free a space where you can have a little assembly line.
-Get a plate and place your tortillas. (My kids like to help me with this steps.)
-Put some meat in the center as much or as little as you want.
-Put some cheese....I use tons!
-Sprinkle chopped onions if you like onions.
-Roll them really tight and start placing them on your pan. Make sure the end is facing down so that they won't unwrap. Put them really tight against each other.
-When you are done filling and rolling your tortillas, (with 50 tortillas you might need a large cookie sheet and a small one).....water down your meat mixture that you have left by putting a half a cup of water and place the meat mixture on top of your enchiladas and cover with cheese.
-Put them in the oven to heat them up and melt the cheese and these is all. ENJOY!

Pot holders.......new craft idea!

INSTRUCTIONS:

Supplies you need: a pot holder, snack bags (they are like sandwich bags but smaller), 1 button, and a sewing machine. (If you don't have a sewing machine, you could probably sew it with a needle and thread.)

1. Obtain a pot holder.
2. Sew a big button on the center of the opposite end of the loop. (Sew it on the side that everyone will see when it's closed.)
3. Stack at least 10 bags evenly and sew the end without the zip lock right in the center of the pot holder.
4. You can also stack a cute ribbon on the top of the bags so that it could look cuter.

You can use it as a sewing kit, a first aid kit, or just to keep anything you want to put in your purse that you might loose because it's too little. Mine has band aids, dental floss, quarters, safety pins, a nail file, matches, a little bar of soap, toothpicks, a little pair of scissors, etc.

That is it! Isn't it simple? It's also a very inexpensive project. You can make them and fill the little bags and give them to friends for Christmas. Gotta run! I'm going to the store to buy some cute pot holders. I think I saw some at the dollar store.

CUTE PUMPKIN!

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Find a the perfect pumpkin at a pumpkin patch or at the store. Make sure the stem is long. (It looks prettier when you're all done.) Mine broke when I picked it from our garden.

2. Make sure it's clean and dry.

3. Spray paint it with metallic spray paint. I used KRYLON METALLICS, bright gold. It dries in 15 minutes or less. Make sure you spray it in a well ventilated area.

4. Let it dry well.

5. Put your bow right below your stem. Like I said, it looks so much better if the stem is long. That way you can see it on the other side of your bow. Right now you can find really cute, fall ribbon anywhere you go. Make a bow out of your ribbon and stick it on the pumpkin. You can tie the wire that you used to tie your bow around the stem or pin it with pins.

YOU CAN USE IT AS A CENTERPIECE OR PUT IT OUTSIDE BY YOUR FRONT DOOR. LAST YEAR I MADE ONE FOR EVERY OTHER STAIR ON OUR STAIRWAY. THEY LOOKED SO CUTE ON THE STAIRS. I LOVE GIVING THEM TO FRIENDS. YOU CAN TAKE ONE TO YOUR DOCTOR'S OFFICE AND GIVE IT TO THE GIRLS OR GIVE IT TO FRIENDS. WITH A CUTE BAG FULL OF TREATS!

My husband is a school teacher and gets a planner every new school year. The other day he came home and gave me his planner. He never uses one. I already have one and my little girl owns one too. I decided to give it a makeover and give it to my dear friend who helps coach the volleyball team at the high school. On the inside (in the calendar section) I put some fun stickers
to mark special days. For example: for Vanlentines Day, I put a heart.....for Easter, I put some Easter eggs and a "Happy Easter" sticker.....for the 4th of July, a flag....for Halloween, I put a pumpkin.....for Thanksgiving, a turkey....on her birthday, I put some fun Birthday stickers, etc. I love stickers! I go crazy with them . You can do so many things with them. Karen loved her planner! Thanks for coming to visit our blog and supporting us. Tell your friend about us. Love, your friend Sadie.

Everytime I run to a church meeting or a meeting at the school, I grab my steno book to take notes. I like to give my steno books a facelift. You can give it to a friend or just simply be the cool gal with the cool note pad. I just tied some pieces of ribbon (any color you want) in the loops on top. For the front cover, I just used some cardstock and stickers or whatever you want to decorate it with.
